DTWID Digest #4
Hey fructose fam, welcome to the April issue of DTWID Digest! A monthly collection of biased observations from yours truly. April was ghastly for my mental health, so… you get what you get with this one!
What I’m Loving Right Now
Moon Knight (Disney+), still. Oscar Isaac is always a pleasure to watch, and I genuinely love Steven’s stupid ass. I don’t know what tf is going on, but the chaos is most pleasing to me.
Airtable (referral link for no reason at all, I do not pay for this lol). I know this is a weird one lol, but nothing makes me feel more productive than a well-organized base. Sure, I’m not actually doing anything, but whenever my executive function returns, I will have a firm grasp on all the things I need to catch up on. Honorable mention to Notion, which might actually be superior, but isn’t as aesthetically satisfying.
I went HAM on anime, so, a list (most of this is in the last week, I feel no shame):
- Blade Runner: Black Lotus (HBO Max/Crunchyroll) ⭐⭐⭐⭐
- Bubble (film, Netflix) ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
- Tiger & Bunny (Netflix) ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
- Kotaro Lives Alone (Netflix) ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
- Pacific Rim: The Black (Netflix) ⭐⭐⭐⭐
- Ultraman (Netflix) ⭐⭐⭐⭐
- JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean (Netflix) ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Enjoyed them all. Still watching Attack on Titan which is wild as hell somehow not over. Got any recommendations for me?
Black TARDIS
To be honest, I’m used to Doctor Who fandom being draining at times, but there’s something particularly… off right now. The overall feeling I have is apathy. Not at the show, necessarily–I am excited for what’s coming. But I’m also enjoying… what we currently have. Which is apparently a bold take. I feel I owe my Cane Companions some more thoughtful reflection on this, and I’ll do my best to make it happen this month.
Delete This When I’m Dead
My blog will relaunch this month! I cannot promise consistency, but I am striving to have something new for y’all every month. Stay tuned for the official announcement. Also the forbidden fic will be back, but I urge you not to read it.
News + Current Events
I am too tired for this. So in brief…
- Elon Musk wants to buy Twitter. He should not!
- Amazon workers in NY voted to unionize. I know das right!
- Florida vs. The Walt Disney Company
Ron DeSantis, the Republican governor of FL, is in his little feelings about Disney doing the barely-bar-clearing minimum to support LGBTQIA+ individuals in the state. So he has decided to dissolve Disney’s Reedy Creek Improvement District. It is a really petty response that would potentially absolve the multi-billion dollar corporation of hella financial responsibility ($1b in debt to start) and hurt FL taxpayers in Orange and Osceola Counties who’d be left to foot the bill. Homophobia sure is expensive.
Netflix Has No Couth
“Are you still watching?” Chile, unfortunately. Netflix is trying TF out of it on several fronts. They’re notorious for canceling beloved shows (some with very modest budgets) while pouring tens of millions per-episode into others. They also love problematic comedians, and pulling the rug out from under their employees! Now they’re talking about cracking down on password sharing, and adding ad-supported tier. Being a leader in the streaming space means what happens with Netflix will impact all the streamers, so it’s looking dire af out here. That said, Netflix remains one of my most-used apps (see watchlist above) so… that’s for me to repent on I guess.
The CW should just gon’ ‘head and call it quits.
The CW still has good shows, don’t get me wrong. But they’re renewing shows that are well past their best years (Let The Flash GO!) and getting rid of stuff that has been consistently good and improving (Batwoman, Legends). I just feel like all their shows can thrive on other networks. BUT… If they’re going to keep on trekking, they need to renew Naomi!
Me
I been going through it so… you know. Pray for me. Or send me a tip.
Laters, gators!
