DTWID Digest #3
Hey fructose fam, welcome to the March issue of DTWID Digest! A monthly collection of biased observations from yours truly.
What I’m Loving Right Now
Yes Moon Knight just dropped, but it dropped IN March—and more importantly, before I wrote this newsletter—so it counts, bb! Oscar Isaac is doing what needs to be done, and Moon Knight has probably one of thee best premiers in the MCU. I’ve already watched the episode twice, and will probably have revisited again by the time this hits your inbox. I am so excited to see where this show goes!
I’ve been spending time with my good homie Anna Mae. I’ve taken advantage of my VERY brief stints of having focus to catch up on some shows that haven’t been dubbed yet, like Attack on Titan. I’m going to cuss, now cause I have thoughts. BITCH WHAT THE FUCK! I do not know what is going on, but we are almost at the end, and they really turned UP the bullshit! I love it. No notes.
My focus tapped out about seven episodes into the Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Entertainment District Arc (Crunchyroll) so I remain behind even though I KNOW it’s lit. 😭 I did finally finish the season of Jujutsu Kaisen (Crunchyroll), but I’ll have to wait for the movie because the breath box is a no-go for me (unless it’s the MCU, I hate to say).
I also discovered later seasons of one of my comfort animes, Sword Art Online, were finally added to the flix DUBBED. (I cannot emphasize enough how hard it is for me to focus on subtitles.) I watched the entire last season (Alicization: War of the Underworld) and baaaby they were giving what needed to be gave! I also realized Kirito—my sweet boy—is a Mary Sue. Apparently we will be getting another season some time this year, so I have something else to look forward to.
Last, but certainly not least. I discovered Blue Period on Netflix and what a charming show! I am very sad that there is currently only one season, and that it is extremely, very short. (I watched it in a few hours!) I am, however, keeping it in my comfort watch rotation until —hopefully! 🙏🏾—we get another season.
Black TARDIS
I found my borrowed Britbox login and am restarting my Classic Who watch. I… do not remember where I left off, only that I for sure completed the Hartnell era. I am not going to maintain a strict watch order, but will try to keep track of what I watch and, of course, share with y’all! Cane Companions and above can vote on which animated serial I watch first. Vote ASAP!
I’m working on my next episode of the pod, and some stuff for you lovely supporters. I’m experimenting with audio and video as formats, but will always be writing… So stay tuned!
Delete This When I’m Dead
My non-Who podcast is also in the works! Stay tuned for DTWID Pod and for more fresh takes, and pop culture commentary at stg1.deletethiswhenimdead.com… So here’s the thing, I am a very chaotic individual. Instead of DTWID (still happening… probably?) I’ve been podcasting about film franchises with my friend Bianca. We launched That Sh*t We Do Like and have already released two(2) whole entire episodes! Listen now wherever you get your pods, tweet at us using #TSWDL and follow us @tswdlpod on twitter and instagram.
News + Current Events
The Slap
Will Smith slapped Chris Rock live and in color at this year’s Oscars. You know what happened, I will not recap, but if you want takes… Here are some takes. I’ve shared my thoughts indirectly… What can I say? I am a firm believer in “talk shit, get hit.” It’s both not a big deal to me, and a cultural conversation that is fascinating to follow.
I love what this moment has become, in terms of how people have exposed themselves… But I am tired of the “outrage.”
I urge folks who say “violence is not the answer” to think of how we—and I mean all of us, but especially Black folks in this country—secured ANY right. But also, take a moment to examine what violence is, and how you participate and perpetuate it everyday.
Ketanji Brown Jackson
Speaking of violence—I have stayed far away from the confirmation hearings. Black women face microaggressions everyday in professional and academic settings. Even well-meaning people line-step, but Judge Jackson is facing people who do not mean well. Strength to her and to all the Black women and femmes who are triggered by the proceedings. She’ll overcome, because we always do, because we have no choice.
COVID
I don’t even want to talk about this shit. I am tired. Get vaccinated, boosted, reboosted. Wear masks. Listen to scientists. Use good judgment. If you cough near me maskless, I will consider that an act of war. Stay well.
(Gas is too damn high!)
This is a quick rant. In another episode of what are laws even for, gas prices skyrocketed for no actual reason, and did not return to pre-war prices despite the cost of oil dropping. Why can they do this?!
Doctor Who is back this month!
‘Legend of the Sea Devils’ will air on Easter Sunday (4/17)! I will be driving back from Las Vegas after seeing BTS, so I will probably be offline (unless I can stream it before I hit the road). I’m excited. Maybe I’ll see if classic Sea Devils serials are available and give those a watch 🤔
Other Things
- That Cyberpunk 2077 update has been cool! I switched back to my first (female) V and am working through the side quests and relationships. Then I’m doing every ending, with every romanceable available, so I can choose who to ride or die with.
- I genuinely hate editing my voice, so podcasting is fun and one of the most personally upsetting things I am voluntarily subjecting myself to. I am still doing it though. Please send me strength, and/or boba and/or snacks!
