DTWID Digest #9 | Stay on the Bridge
Hey fructose fam, welcome to the long awaited ninth issue of The Digest! A bi-monthly or more—maybe Less?—collection of biased observations from yours truly. It’s been a minute, so I’ll do a soft reintroduction.
From Issue #1
We spend a lot of time in public spaces commiserating over shared disappointments. From politics to entertainment, there is something relieving—cathartic even—about expressing dislike. But mutual loathing of a thing too easily becomes what binds us together. And while that has its place—and frankly, feels good—I want to combat the urge to dwell on dislike and spend time, each issue, explicitly focusing on at least one thing that brings me joy. I hope in doing so I help you discover something that makes you feel the same.
What I’m Loving Right Now
Watching
- Dandadan
- Ranma ½
There is more but I am simply… Unable to recall.
Playing
- Honkai: Star Rail
- Zenless Zone Zero
- Yakuza: Like A Dragon
Twitch
I’m in my Twitch era, and I’ve found some really cool streamers to watch, chat, and co-work with. Here are just a few of my faves:
- AlexNoremaki — A variety streamer who is a little chaotic and a lot of fun
- AmethystBrit — A sweet streamer who is soft as baby poop irl but vicious on the joysticks
- Knimbley — A fairy-coded streamer who radiates cute and calm and offers a soft and cozy space
- KosplayKay — A cute cosplayer, a horror hottie, who creates a fun and engaging space
- Sliceof_MJ — A cozy and covid–conscious streamer who creates a warm and welcoming space in their Meadow
I’ll share more every issue!
What I’m Thinking About
This was going to be a super niche aside about websites, blogs, WordPress, etc. Now it’s a bit of a rant about doing things just to be a part of something, when you know it’s something you won’t find meaningful or fulfilling—or even just silly fun. I will begrudgingly put it on the record that I watched the Paul vs. Tyson fight live on Netflix, because I saw folks talking about it, and excited about it, and wanted to share in that excitement even though I did not personally care. Readers, that was a fucking mistake.
First of all, I do not enjoy sports. I find sports, the whole broad collection of varying games and activities, very boring. I do not mind sports films—in fact I kinda love them? They’re 90ish-minute films that truncate the actual gameplay into about 8 minutes of the most important and interesting parts, and I think all sports should be that way. Unfortunately, sports are not that way. And boxing, as an individual sport, appears to be mostly tapping and carrying on with a few brief intermissions of actual fisticuffs? Anyway, I knew I did not care going in, and that I would probably be bored by the whole ordeal, but still wanted to “participate.”
“If everyone jumped off a bridge would you?” Yeah, probably. LMFAO. Are they dead? Like, did they die? No? Then yeah, fuck it! But in this case, maybe they did die. Maybe I am dead. The bridge should not have been leapt from. It was a boring waste of time and it absolutely emboldened Netflix to waste time and money on more boring shit in the future because they know my dumbass, and many more folks, will show up just to say they were there. This is the wrong thing to teach them. We should be better. I should be better.
Anyway, it was boring. Did I mention that? And Mike Tyson LOST. Which… I mean, this was a no-win either way, right? If he won, it’s like, “yeah, he’s fucking Mike Tyson!” But he lost and it’s like “yeah, he’s fucking 58.” And this white boy gets to say he won (barely) and it’s like, “he’s more than twice your age, are you proud?” There are no winners except the promoters and Netflix. We should’ve stayed on that bridge, smh.
What I’m Up To
Here’s what’s going on in my universe.
DTWID
This newsletter happened… By the time it goes out, I may have changed my subscription tiers. Who can say? (I can say. I have not… yet.)
Black TARDIS
Doctor Who remains important to me and Black TARDIS is a meaningful part of my connection to the show. It’s something I want to continue and to evolve, but also something that takes energy and intention that I do not always have and cannot always sustain by myself. That said, I migrated all my tweets to Bluesky. That’s probably extremely chaotic, but it’s above me now. Follow Black TARDIS on the butterfly app!
AMBIVIRGIN
I changed my Twitch name/url to NiqFury, but it’s still AMBIVIRGIN in the gaming streets (It’s my gamertag almost everywhere)! You can catch me streaming (erratically, but hopefully somewhat more consistently) at TWITCH.TV/NIQFURY 💚 Follow me to be notified when I go live! If you have Amazon Prime and want to support me, you can subscribe to my Twitch channel to get ad-free viewing, emotes, disco channels, and more using your free monthly sub. Learn more and subscribe.
What’s Going On Out There
Chiiiile, y’all was there, y’all know.
This is where I’d normally list and maybe editorialize on some current world events. Reader, we’re not doing that this time. We’re going to keep on keeping on and pretend not to see. At least for now… we’ve earned some reprieve.
